The celebrated SABC Choristers will be jetting off this month to the US to present a series of solo concerts at some of the most prestigious venues in New York.

Following the launch of their new album, Ke Kgale, this ground-breaking tour, by invitation of a US production company, will see the choristers performing at, among other venues, Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Centre and Columbia University.

The choir will also give a performance in Harlem and will appear at several festivals, including the Fall Cultural Festival at at the famed Brooklyn Theatre.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Thulasizwe Nkabinde, the group's leader, said: "It's the first time that we will be going to New York as a group.

"The tour provides us with the opportunity to expose our musical work outside our borders and to show the world what we are capable of.

"We are all very excited about the trip."

The tour also provide an opportunity for the SABC to announce itself on the world stage before it takes on its role as the official broadcaster of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

l Ke Kgale , which was released in October, also features an impressive rendition of the national anthem. The album comes after Education , released in 2000, and the highly successful Bafana Bafana, which was released in 1997.
