We call on parents to be vigilant and observe the behaviour of those who did not pass and swiftly deal with depression and suicidal tendencies among them.

Parents must be supportive and accept that they are as responsible for bad results of pupils because corrective steps should have been taken during the year, not at the end.

The non-participation of parents in school management must be condemned.

It is with regret that we note the mediocre performance of our education system, with more than 200 000 of 742 289 candidates failing.

One major cause of failure in schools is the language used in examinations, poor management and teachers with social problems in urban areas.

We call on minister of education Naledi Pandor to complete the language policy she started by introducing language options in taking matric examinations.
