The new public protector says she will leave the dispute over the state capture report prepared by h.
Corinne Esterhuizen, 18, couldn't contain her excitement when she learnt that she is one of the top girl matriculants this year.
The pupil from Constantia Park in Pretoria is among the top 10 achievers in the public school category to pass with distinctions.
Corinne, together with three other girls in Gauteng's public schools, achieved an overall aggregate of 85percent or more.
"I can't believe that I am actually among the top four girls.
"I knew I was going to obtain good marks but didn't expect this," said the modest teenager.
"I am so happy and I don't know what to say."
Corinne's mother, Lewina, was ecstatic.
"I am so proud of my daughter," said the nursing sister and widowed mother of two.
Corinne's ambition is to study chemical engineering next year.
At school she excelled in mathematics and physical science.
"I hope that I have obtained straight As because I've worked very hard," she said.
Corinne has overcome many odds during her high school days.
Two years ago she was diagnosed with epilepsy.
"I was not deterred in my pursuit of excellence," she said, with pride.
Said her mother: "I am relieved that she came out tops at the end.
"I was worried about her health and the stress that came with her hard work. But it paid off at the end of the day."
Corinne said she often relaxed with her friends when she was not burning the midnight candle, or she would spend time with her mother "because I'm a mama's baby".
She said among her other pet loves are reading and watching movies.
"This is the best New Year's present. I am going to celebrate my achievement with my family and friends," she said.
