Two years ago Vuyani Mdepa, 39, lapsed into a coma, apparently after his boss shot him at point blank range in his office. A few days later he woke up to find that he had been shot in an "armed robbery".

Even more shocking was that he had been admitted to hospital as an "unknown male", even though his employers at Savells Furniture Shop in Chamdor on the West Rand were present during the shooting.

Now he wants answers, and he wants compensation.

Mdepa says he had argued with the branch manager, Thabo Mokoena, on the morning of the shooting.

"My employers were dissatisfied with Mokoena's conduct. As a shop steward, I was investigating the matter," he said.

Mokoena shot Mdepa in the face before turning the gun on himself.

When Sowetan contacted an official at Savells Furnishers' head office in Durban, he refused to comment and said he had nothing to say about the issue.

Kagiso Police Station confirmed that a case of armed robbery at Savells Furnishers in Chamdor was reported on November 3 2004.

They said during the incident a male was shot in the head and another committed suicide. No one has since been arrested in connection with the case.
