The two Limpopo hitmen who were hired by a female police officer to murder her husband this week will have no charges laid against them.

It emerged yesterday that the two men would not be charged because of their efforts to tip off police about the murderous plot.

One of the alleged hitmen was apparently close to the woman.

The two were allegedly hired to assassinate Phillip Molokomme, a senior Scorpions detective who was saved from what is alleged to have been a plot hatched by his wife.

The plot to kill Molokomme, 51, was allegedly conceived after the woman learnt about the death benefits that would be payable against her husband's life assurance policy.

The murder plot unfolded at the couple's home in Fauna Park in Polokwane on Monday night.

Police Captain Christina Molokomme, who was attached to the Polokwane police's emergency services unit, was arrested before the hitmen could do their work. She will spend Christmas behind bars in the Polokwane police's holding cells after her case was postponed to December 27.

Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo, spokesman for the provincial police commissioner Calvin Sengani, confirmed yesterday that the "hitmen" would receive a reward for their efforts.

"A decision was taken to reward the two men for assisting us with information that led to the arrest of the suspect," said Mojapelo.

He said depending on the conviction of the suspect, the two men stood share an amount of R25000.
