Sowetan can reveal the reason why popular Muvhango actress, Shoki Mmola, known as Tumi in the SABC2 drama series, is going on a year-long break.
It is because Mmola is pregnant.
Though Mmola and the series' producer Duma Ka-Ndlovu refused to confirm her pregnancy, our investigation has learnt from sources close to the actress that she indeed has a bun in the oven.
We had earlier reported that she, like scores of other actors who recently left the drama series, was gone for good.
But we now have it from reliable sources that she will return after a year or so, most probably in the beginning of 2008.
Her fans will still be able to see her on the screen until June next year.
Ka-Ndlovu said Mmola was still contracted to Muvhango.
"She asked for a year's leave to attend to family matters, and we granted her that.
"She is still an integral part of the drama series, and will be back in due course," Ka-Ndlovu said.
He said the storyline will be written in such a way that she leaves for KwaZulu-Natal to get married.
But her absence will not be permanent because the storyline will make an allowance for her come back.
Mmola confirmed to Sowetan yesterday that she was still part of Muvhango.
"I should be back with Muvhango sometime in 2008. I have not really left. I am just on leave for a year."
