The family of the late Nthabiseng Maphalle, 4, does not have money to bury her.
The young girl from Mentz village, outside Polokwane, died on June 19.
Her partly burnt body was discovered at MmaMaakane village near the University of Limpopo's Turfloop campus three days after she had disappeared.
She had left her home to buy a packet of chips at a local spaza shop.
A villager, identified as Jan Makgoba, 37, was arrested in connection with Nthabiseng's death.
Makgoba, however, died a few days later while in police custody.
Nthabiseng's funeral was delayed by the late arrival of the DNA test results.
Sibongile Maphalle, 22, the child's mother, said arrangements had been made to bury Nthabiseng today but because of the lack of money they could not proceed.
"I am now relieved that my daughter has been returned to us to bury. However, lack of money is causing us sleepless nights," said the unemployed mother.
Florah Maphalle, Nthabiseng's grandmother, said everyone in the family was unemployed.
"When my granddaughter died, we approached several burial societies to which we belong for help. Unfortunately what they came with is not enough to carry a funeral."
Stephen Mogale, a local ward councillor, said the Capricorn district municipality would investigate the possibilities of helping the family.
