The city of Matlosana has called on former and current soccer stars to contribute to the development of the game in the area by getting involved in local initiatives.

"One of the projects we have initiated is the Beach Soccer Tournament, which kicked off on Monday and will end on Saturday [tomorrow]," said project coordinator Brian Sebapole.

"We would like everyone associated with Matlosana to make themselves and their skills available for the development of a database, which will guide us in getting the right people included in our mission of developing the game. It is always good to have different stakeholders come together and find out if they can work together."

Sebapole said the Beach Soccer Tournament will be expanded to other parts of North West. Six local teams - Jouberton Masters, Dikwangkwetla, Divas, Beach Boys, Matlosana Masters and Khuma SAPS Masters - are competing in the tournament at the Dros Restaurant at Flamwood Walk.
