The battle between Jabu Khanyile's widows over his estate has taken a dramatic new twist.
Sowetan has discovered that the late Afro-pop star had divorced his first wife, Nomasonto Daphney Khanyile, before he died.
However, this week, she instituted a court against Khanyile's second wife, Khululiwe Sithole.
While Sowetan could not establish the date of the divorce, the Home Affairs' website verified that Khanyile had divorced Nomasonto and married Sithole four days before his death from diabetes.
On Wednesday, Nomansonto Khanyile temporarily prevented Sithole from "tempering with or withdrawing money" from the late musician's estate.
She also demanded that Sithole return all the money and assets she had drawn from his estate, including three luxury cars and furniture.
Though Sithole agreed not to temper with or dissipate the assets of the deceased until the matter is finalised, she said she was going to oppose the matter and is expected to file her answering affidavit in January.
In papers before the court, Nomasonto said that to the best of her knowledge she had been married to Khanyile for the past 25 years and that the marriage "still persists".
Attempts to get comment from Home Affairs proved futile.
