Struggling Maritzburg United have parted ways with coach Kostadin "Bill Clinton" Papic.
Papic, who was roped in as head coach at the beginning of the season, was fired on Tuesday.
The writing had been on the wall for some time now and very few in soccer circles will be surprised to hear the news.
United played 14 games under the Serb, won three, lost seven and drew four.
Farouk Kadodia, boss of the Team of Choice, confirmed yesterday that they have parted ways with the former Orlando Pirates coach.
Kadodia would not comment further, except to say that they would start looking for a new coach to fill Papic's position.
United's media liaison officer Senzo Msimang said Papic resigned after failing to fulfil his promises.
One such Papic promise was that by the end of the first round, United would have pocketed 20 points, but that is not the case.
"Clearly, if you can't keep your own promise that you made in your sober senses, then that leaves much to be desired about yourself. Management was left with no choice but to show him the door," said Msimang.
"We only have 13 points and even if we win our game against Bloemfontein Celtic, we will be on 16."
Papic confirmed that he was shown the door after reaching a mutual agreement with management that he resign.
He said the fact that they have failed to get the desired results left him with no choice but to step down.
"For now I will have to make up my mind about my next step," he said yesterday.
"I'm going to take my time thinking about whether to stay or go back home."
