The article "Humans live where racehorses would not tread" refers.

The article was mischievous because it unnecessarily linked Phumelela and horse racing to the landlord exploiting tenants.

Further, the article was factually incorrect.

Obviously, it is deplorable that tenants living in a former stabling complex near the Newmarket Racecourse are being exploited by the owner of the property.

But this unfortunate situation is in no way connected to horse racing. The only connection is that former stables are being used as living quarters for people and that the property is within sight of the Newmarket Racecourse.

For the record, it is incorrect to say that racing will continue at Newmarket Racecourse until 2012.

The racecourse was sold by Phumelela some time ago and a use agreement to continue racing there was subsequently terminated. Consequently, racing will cease at Newmarket in January.

Phumelela is not "the national horse racing operator". Phumelela operates horse racing and tote betting in seven of South Africa's nine provinces, while Gold Circle operates in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
