Mother claims abuse of office

A Limpopo woman feels the country's justice system is failing her.

Posh Mmatlarula, of Giyani, complained that she has repeatedly been to the local magistrates' court, where her former boyfriend works, to serve him with a summons to pay maintenance for their child, but without success.

"I suspect my former boyfriend is blocking the process in the maintenance office because he occupies a senior post there," she said.

Mmatlarula said she feels angry about their child going to sleep on an empty stomach while her father has a decent job.

Watson Manyai, the court manager, confirmed that he knew about the matter and had transferred it to the maintenance officer who was expected to deal with it.

"If it is found that he is not paying the maintenance the law will take its course because no one is above the law.

"We don't have attitudes to treat our people differently. We treat everyone equally here," Manyai said.

Manyai has promised to investigate the matter.
