Be very afraid of Zuma era

I would like to voice my concern about the creeping dictatorship tendency engulfing the faction that supports Jacob Zuma in the tripartite alliance - that is the ANC Youth League, SACP and Cosatu.

It is now clear that those who do not support the idea of having Zuma as the next president are being purged.

Recently the Young Communist League expelled Mazibuko Jara for the being vocal about the league's obsession with Zuma at the expense of the organisation.

This happened days after the national leadership of the ANCYL disbanded its Eastern Cape structure soon after the latter voiced its support for President Thabo Mbeki to stand for the third term.

As if that was not enough, Fikile Mbalula announced that the league would hold its next congress in 2008, so the current leadership would have influence on the election of the ANC leadership, much to the astonishment of democracy- loving South Africans.

Zuma supporters are very quick to accuse Mbeki of being intolerant of differing views, calling him a dictator. However, it seems they are the ones who are hellbent on sidelining, by hook or crook, all those seen to be talking sense.

These are reasons strong enough for all democrats to be very afraid of the Zuma era.
