In an effort to address increasing the increasing abuse of women and children, Art for Humanity has launched a national public art initiative.

The Women for Children billboard advocacy campaign was created last month.

The initiative is supported by the Foundation for Human Rights, and the European Union in partnership with Art for Humanity.

The work of female visual artists and of poets will be displayed on 21 billboards all over South Africa.

The featured artists will include Ernestine White, Diane Victor, Angela Buckland, Nomusa Makhubu and Judith Mason.

The poets will include Lindiwe Nkutha, Liesl Jobson, Malika Ndlovu, Lebogang Mashile and Finuala Dowling.

Each billboard will feature a collaboration between a visual artist and a poet that features an artwork and an accompanying poem.

At least two billboards have been flighted in each province and each of South Africa's 11 official languages is represented in the poetry translations.

Art, social development and advocacy are dynamic and challenging concepts which, when combined, as in this initiative, create an innovative approach for targeting social problems with sustainable and positive results.
