Two men appeared briefly in the Vereeniging magistrates' court last week in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old man.

Johannes Mazibuko, 34, and Dingaan Tshabalala, 21, both from Sebokeng in the Vaal, are alleged to have shot dead Lucky Moleko at his Ironside home in De Deur, near Vereeniging, last week.

Moleko was shot in the stomach and an arm.

Captain Velaphi Mcera, a Vaal Rand police spokesman, said: "The two [suspects] went to a house in Sebokeng where they hid from the police until they were arrested."

Mcera said the men were arrested after the police were alerted to their presence by the owner of the house in which they had taken refuge.

The two face charges of murder and of possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlicensed ammunition.

Mazibuko and Tshabalala are expected to appear in court again on December 29.
