Police said Inspector Nkosinathi Zanto, 47, was attacked by three men while walking on Mkwenkwe Road with his brother-in-law.
Inspector Hazel Mqala said the motive for the attack was not known.
She said nothing was taken during the attack. Mqala said that Zanto had been wearing civilian clothes and was unarmed at the time. - Sapa
