The Lebombo-Ressano Garcia border post in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, is now open 24 hours a day because of the large number of people travelling from South Africa to Mozambique.
The extended operating times will continue until 10pm on January 8.
Brenda Horne, chief executive of the Maputo Corridor logistics initiative, said an SMS service, which is updated hourly, had been established to send travellers information about the operating hours of the border-control post.
