Theft of dignity

All human beings should be treated with dignity, irrespective of their status.

All human beings should be treated with dignity, irrespective of their status.

Destitute people should not be exploited simply because they are desperate.

The report of 105 men, women and children living in five blocks of dilapidated stables near Newmarket racecourse in Alberton, Ekurhuleni, is heartbreaking.

Each family is charged at least R250 a month to stay in a windowless room with no electricity or running water.

Greedy landlords, instead of being sympathetic to their plight, have taken advantage of the situation.

Condemning people to such filthy and unhygienic conditions, and making them pay up to R450 a month for their degradation, is not only inhumane, it is grossly immoral.
