Spurs feeling let down

Witbank Spurs, the only team from Mpumalanga in the Mvela Golden League, is accusing the Mbombela local municipality of a lack of support.

The criticism comes after the municipality, which is in Nelspruit, apparently failed to respond on time to the team's request to host their game against PJ Stars at KaNyamazane stadium.

The gamed ended up being played at Spurs' home ground of Ackerville in Witbank.

Thabo Moroape, Spurs' communications manager, said they are disappointed with the council.

"We only requested the municipality to host the club by making the stadium available, providing camping and training facilities for 22 people, catering for two days and organising us a breakfast with the executive mayor, Justice Nsibande, at their own expense since we are currently without a financial sponsorship," he said.

"They failed to respond to our requisition and we felt let down by the council."

Vusi Sibiya, Mbombela communications manager, said they did responded to Spurs' request to use the stadium. But the approval was only granted on the eve of the match.
