Coin Security, still reeling from a R50million heist last month at their Modderfontein depot, was hit yet again this week.

Sowetan received an anonymous tip-off yesterday from a man who said that Coin's Robertville depot on the West Rand was robbed of R30million during a heist in the early hours of Monday morning.

The source told Sowetan that the depot had been attacked by 30 armed men who disabled the security system by removing the antennae connecting Coin to their armed response unit.

He said the criminals then drugged the guards and used a bulldozer to break into the vault, which they cleaned out.

Coin spokesman Anke Potgieter said that the robbery had occurred on Monday night, contradicting the police and the source's statements, which claimed it had happened in the morning.

In addition, police claimed that just five armed men had been involved.

In a statement, Coin said they could not comment on the amount of money taken because a full assessment was under way.

Police spokesman Superintendent Milica Bezuidenhout said the robbers had gained entry to the building by damaging the alarm system at 6.25am on Monday.

"A substantial amount of cash was taken by a group of at least five men. It was established that the security guard on duty was found unconscious on the premises and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment," said Bezuidenhout.

Bezuidenhout said the suspects fled and were all still at large.
