401 killed this month on roads

At least 401 people have died on the roads in 347 accidents since the beginning of December, the Department of Transport said yesterday.

At least 401 people have died on the roads in 347 accidents since the beginning of December, the Department of Transport said yesterday.

The department said the dead were 123 drivers, 136 passengers and 142 pedestrians.

During the same period last year, 528 people died in 446 accidents. The provincial breakdown is: KwaZulu-Natal 73, Gauteng 71, Western Cape 46, North West 45, Eastern Cape 43, Mpumalanga 41, Free State 36, Limpopo 29 and Northern Cape 17. - Sapa
