The Beverly Hills Cop actor made the claims in a Dutch TV interview last Tuesday, just a day after the Wannabe singer claimed they were looking forward to spending Christmas together.

When asked if he was happy with Mel, who revealed she was pregnant last month, Murphy snapped: "You're being presumptuous because we're not together anymore. I don't know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn't jump to conclusions, sir."

British newspaper The Sun said Mel is shocked because she believed they were still an item.

Mel was heard telling a close friend: "There's no question that Eddie is the father of the baby. I haven't been with anyone else since I met Eddie. I'm shell-shocked. As far as I was concerned we hadn't really broken up, we just had a bit of a row."

Murphy was recently seen in public with new girlfriend Tracey Edmonds at the New York premiere of his latest film Dreamgirls.
