A self-confessed serial murderer-turned-prison-pastor appeared in court on his sixth murder charge yesterday.
Sello Osia Chakane, 39, made a brief appearance in the Vereeniging circuit court yesterday.
Chakane, of Sebokeng, made headlines last month when he told a court that not only was he guilty of the murder rap facing him, but that he had killed many more people. He confessed to murdering five people in the Vaal.
He is also a self-styled "prison pastor" at Groenpunt Maximum Prison outside Sasolburg, in the Free State.
Chakane, who is serving multiple jail terms and a life sentence, was sentenced again last month to a further 50 years.
This time he and accomplice John Tshabalala, 36, of Boipatong are accused of gunning down Simon Mohale, 26, in Sebokeng on June 28 2000.
Chakane, a born-again Christian, told Sowetan last month he would plead guilty to Mohale's murder.
In prison Chakane's church has a congregation of about 300 members, most of them convicts serving lengthy jail terms.
In court Judge Seun Moshidi asked Chakane if he was still preaching the word of God in prison.
Moshidi said: "I hope you convince many prisoners to worship the Lord."
Chakane and Tshabalala are facing charges of murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Their trial was postponed to May 23 next year.
