Nissan wins design award, ranks among top 50 for social responsibility

Nissan South Africa is the winner of the Exhibition of Southern Africa (Exsa) award for the best external design stand at Auto Africa 2006.

Nissan South Africa is the winner of the Exhibition of Southern Africa (Exsa) award for the best external design stand at Auto Africa 2006.

Nissan's general manager for marketing and planning, Gerhard Fourie, said: "We are delighted to receive this award, which highlights the synergy between Nissan South Africa and the company in Japan that designed the stand.

"All parties worked closely together to ensure that the stand was not only designed according to Nissan's global standard, but also encapsulated the new Nissan design philosophies.

"We at Nissan have always supported Auto Africa and regard it as a valuable opportunity to showcase our products," he said.

Nissan is celebrating a top ranking for the parent company's social responsibility programme. The ranking puts Nissan among the top 50 companies in the world, according to a survey by Global Reporters.

"This is the first time Nissan has made it to the top 50," said Julio Panama, Nissan SA's managing director.

In September, Nissan handed over a mobile eye-care clinic to the Phelophepa health care train, which is sponsored by the Transnet foundation.

The clinic will provide 4000 children every year with prescription glasses.
