We can all breathe easier now that Annanias Mathe is back in custody. Let's hope officials can keep him there this time.

The Mozambican Houdini is facing 70 counts ranging from murder to house-breaking. He is the first person to have escaped from the high-security C-Max Prison in Pretoria in 36 years.

He was picked up yesterday aftera house robbery in Craighall Park, Johannesburg. Part of his loot was a blue Citi Golf, that led to his downfall. The car had a tracking device, which traced his progress to Tembisa on the East Rand.

Ngconde Balfour, Minister of Correctional Services, let slip yesterday that his department has suspended warders suspected of helping Mathe escape. We hope to be spared this embarrassment again.
