United Democratic Movement (UDM) president Bantu Holomisa has joined calls for foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to "explain to the nation" why she backed a serial sex pest.

Holomisa's comments come in the wake of a Pretoria high court finding last Friday that former diplomat, Norman Mashabane, should have been fired for sexual harassment. Dlamini-Zuma overturned her department's disciplinary hearing, which found Mashabane guilty of 22 counts of sexual harassment in 2001. But the high court on Friday overturned Dlamini-Zuma's decision, ruling in favour of Lara Swart, who was sexually harassed by Mashabane.

"This must be a lesson for the minister that she should draw the line between political directives and political interference with the work done by technocrats," said Holomisa.

Dlamini-Zuma had acted "unethically" by not fully explaining why she had backed Mashabane.

Holomisa's call follows that of the DA's Douglas Gibson who called on the minister to apologise to the victims.

Mashabane is now on a year's contract as political adviser to Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto.
