The Rest of South Africa team to play in a four-day tour match against India at Sedgars Park in Potchefstroom was announced today.

In announcing the team, national convenor of selectors, Haroon Lorgat, said: "We are keen to develop our fringe players by selecting them and creating opportunities for them to play against international opposition.

"We need to focus our attention on having players available for selection should the need arise during the season."

Lorgat said a number of senior Proteas will not take part in the December 7 to 10 matches and this year's SuperSport Series matches.

He said: "Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher, Makhaya Ntini, Herschelle Gibbs, Shaun Pollock and Andre Nel will be rested from the games. Ashwell Prince, Andrew Hall, Loots Bosman, Boeta Dippenaar and Robin Peterson have been released to play for their franchises."

Rest of South Africa team: Jacques Rudolph (captain) Paul Adams, Jean Paul Dumin, Mornantau Hayward, Justin Kemp, Garnett Kruger, Morne Morkel, Alviro Peterson, Vernon Philander, Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Morne van Wyk. - Sapa
