Two more senior officials of the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) municipality are expected to be fired.
Sonwabo Mampoza, a spokesman for the municipality, yesterday announced that corporate manager Nomathemba Mbiko and infrastructure manager David Nase had been given 14 days to show cause why they should not be dismissed from their jobs.
He was speaking on behalf of the KSD municipality mayor, De Larey Mkatshwa.
The announcement comes in the wake of the dismissal on Wednesday of Mzamo Gumbi, who was ordered to vacate his office within 48 hours.
Allegations against Gumbi are that his contract had expired two years ago and that his performance had "left much to be desired", said Mampoza.
An audit report tabled recently before the council revealed that Mbiko and Nase had submitted fake academic qualifications when they applied for their jobs three years ago.
Though Nase submitted academic qualifications for subjects he purportedly passed at Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), investigations by the audit revealed that he had never registered as a student at RAU.
Mbiko allegedly submitted academic qualifications from the then University of Port Elizabeth (UPE).
Chairman of the audit committee Wandile Yako told the council that Mbiko's documents appeared to have been reproduced from a computer.
The supposed signatures of the rector and registrar on the documents Mbiko submitted were not the same as those on the certificates the audit team obtained from other former UPE students, said Yako.
Mampoza yesterday refused to make a pronouncement on the future of the two officials, saying he did not want to pre-empt the outcome of their pending presentations of their cases.
