South African Airways (SAA) will retrench 1000 employees because of high operating costs, the airline announced yesterday.
The retrenchments have already begun, said chief executive Khaya Ngqula.
Though revenue was up, SAA had to cut down on costs and its new low-cost airline Mango had nothing to do with the retrenchments, he said.
SAA spokesman Jacqui O' Sullivan said staff were informed of the decision on Wednesday. - Sapa
