Tip from LifeLine on handling the four-week wait for your matric results.
What to do while waiting for the results
l Surround yourself with positive people.
l Do things that make you happy, like listening to music, going for a walk or watching a movie.
l Keep yourself busy. You can volunteer your services somewhere that you'll be needed and appreciated.
l Feed your mind with positive thoughts.
l Find ways to prepare yourself for anything, good or bad.
l Keep the faith and keep hope alive. Draw strength from your own resources or the spirituality of others.
l Share your feelings with someone who understands you or talk to your parents.
Signs parents should look out for
l Changes in behaviour such as sudden withdrawal from favourite activities.
l Statements that show feelings of hopelessness.
l A sudden willingness to visit someone and go away from home, especially if the atmosphere at home is not friendly.
How to deal with the signs
l Communicate with your children. Do your best to find out what they are going through.
l Be careful what you say in front of the children, especially negative statements.
l Let your children know they are special and loved, whatever their matric results are.
l Let them be. Some children need space in which to figure out what their feelings are and to express them.
