Models are often seen as brainless, glamour queens with no concern for anything but their nails, but this myth was blown out of the water yesterday afternoon.

The reality check happened at a press conference that was held at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg when models, designers and businesses announced their participation in the CatWalk the World - Fashion for Food event, which is aimed at fighting child hunger throughout the world.

The event, which will be held in May, will bring together the worlds of fashion, music and social responsibility, and will prove that the children of the mother continent can look after their own.

To ensure that the stunning event actually happens, internationally acclaimed designers will be participating with each one representing his or her country.

The glamour, glitz and wealth of the fashion industry will be used to create awareness and raise funds for the millions of children suffering from hunger and hunger-related diseases.

Launched in Lagos, Nigeria, in April, the next CatWalk The World will be held in Accra in Ghana, on December 22, Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, in February next year and in Johannesburg in May.

The entertainers that will be participating in the Johannesburg event are still to be announced.
