The Creative Workers Union Of South Africa is holding its yearly general meeting on Thursday at the Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg.

All actors, visual artists, musicians, dancers, technicians and crafters are urged to attend the meeting, which will start promptly at 9.30am.

Oupa Lebogo, the union's general secretary, said the meeting will report back on labour and creative industry issues and will also discuss the World Aids Day Commemoration taking place on Friday.

He said discussions were held with the departments of Arts and Culture, Trade and Industry and the SABC. The information gleaned will be shared at the meeting.

Mbongeni Ndlovu, programme coordinator, said skills development and a conducive environment for artists to work in have been closely examined.

"We have looked at a retirement fund, medical aid and funeral covers for our members."

Ndlovu was also excited that Thebe Investments has come up with a funeral cover for artists for only R30.
