A 26-year-old Mpumalanga man has been charged with raping the girlfriend of a man who once assaulted him in prison.
According to the police, the rape took place near Tweefontein village early on Sunday morning.
Police spokesman for the Highveld, Superintendent Malcolm Mokomene, said a 19-year-old woman and her boyfriend were returning home from a party when they were confronted by two men.
One of the men, who was known to the woman, reminded the girl's boyfriend of their clash in prison some time ago, Mokomene said.
"He then told the woman that he was going to make her pay for what her boyfriend had done to him in prison.
"They chased away the girl's partner, after which the suspect dragged the woman to the veld where, she says, he threatened her with a knife and raped her."
The woman later reported the matter to the police, who then arrested the suspect, Mokomene said.
