The Mpumalanga spike nurse who injected her four-year-old stepson with HIV-contaminated blood will have two more months of freedom because her sentencing has been postponed to February next year.
Magistrate Victor Mathebula yesterday postponed the sentencing of the 34-year-old nurse to February 7.
This after the defence asked the court to postpone the case because two witnesses needed more time to prepare testimony.
This is the second postponement of the sentencing since the nurse was found guilty of attempted murder last month.
The crime happened in 2004 when the child, who is now six, was visiting his father in Mkhuhlu, Bushbuckridge.
At the time the nurse was employed at Matikwane Hospital. She apparently stole the blood from the hospital's laboratory.
An internal investigation found her innocent of stealing blood because at that specific time she was on sick leave.
She was later transferred to the Cunningmoor Clinic, also in Bushbuckridge. Residents threatened to boycott the clinic if she continued working there.
