A policeman suspected of belonging to a syndicate that smuggles stolen cars into Mozambique briefly appeared in court with his wife yesterday.
The constable, 34, from Mpumalanga, was remanded until he applies for bail in the Barberton magistrates' court on Thursday.
His wife, 28, was released on a warning.
The couple was arrested last week after police traced a stolen BMW 320i to the garage of their Komatipoort home.
The policeman was arrested in 2004 for allegedly helping Gauteng-based syndicates to smuggle cars into Mozambique.
He was suspended and returned to work last month. - Sakhile Mokoena
