Versatile maskandi artist Buselaphi Buthelezi-Gxowa has declared war on drugs, abuse, crime and HIV-Aids - and her weapon is sport.
The vocalist of Imithente launched her campaign at the weekend at Bhanganono, a remote area of KwaNongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal where, she said, crime levels have increased dramatically.
Buselaphi said young people only took drugs because they had "nothing to do" after their matriculation year.
"With World Cup 2010 approaching, everyone should do something to ensure our country takes the lead in producing more talent. The solution is to get the youth away from drugs through the discipline of sport," she said.
"I want to plough back into the community whatever help I can," the popular singer said.
