Six people, including two sangomas, appeared briefly in a packed Seshego magistrates' court on Wednesday on ritual murder charges.
Lisbeth Phasha, a sangoma, her son Aubrey Phasha, his girlfriend Martha Motale, his two friends Jonas Boshomane and Thabo Mathibela, and Lisbeth Phasha's boyfriend, Bernard Bila, a sangoma from Mozambique, are accused of killing Jonas Leputu, 21, for muti.
Leputu's body, burnt beyond recognition, was found in his shack at Mashinini settlement, Seshego, last month.
Inspector Mohlaka Mashiane said: "On October 28 our patrolling officers found a man dead from stab wounds and arrested two men, Jonas Boshomane and Thabo Mathibela, for his death and for a series of housebreakings."
He said the two men confessed to the murder and "also told us they had killed Leputu before setting his shack on fire".
The two, together with Aubrey Phasha and his girlfriend Motale, allegedly stabbed Leputu in the chest and took some of his body parts to Lisbeth Phasha, who passed them on to Bila.
The case was postponed to December 4 because the defence lawyer is writing examinations.
Members of the Young Communists' League and of the Traditional Healers' Association marched to the court, demanding that the accused be denied bail.
