The Young Communist League (YCL) has called on SABC boss Dali Mpofu, right, to resign for using R123000 of taxpayers' money to pay for a cover profile story in a business publication.
"If Dali Mpofu wants to be the darling of the media and appear in glossy magazines and tabloids, he must go to Hollywood and leave the SABC," said YCL spokesman Castro Ngobese.
"He can't use money that could be used for educational programmes. He is not running a tourism company. The SABC is a public broadcaster that should not be used to fulfil his ego and personal ambitions."
The article appeared in the June issue of Leadership magazine.
Yesterday Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri said the article was not for "personal publicity" but for the SABC to communicate its new corporate strategy and vision.
