Randy Phiri, son of world-acclaimed musician Ray Phiri, is off the hook - because his accuser became tired of having to appear at court hearings at which nothing happened, except that the case was repeatedly postponed.

Yesterday the Nelspruit magistrates' court withdrew charges of armed robbery against Phiri, 24, because the 74-year-old complainant was no longer prepared to travel more than 200km from Ermelo to Nelspruit every time the case was heard.

Last month the same court withdrew a charge of theft against Phiri after the complainant failed to attend.

Phiri and his co-accused, Patrick Sibiya, were accused of mugging the 74-year-old woman and robbing her of R1700 and a cellphone.

The case was withdrawn after the woman told the court by telephone that she could not attend the hearings because Nelspruit was too far for her to travel.
