Justice Malala's piece in which he attacks the Reverend Motlalepule Chabaku, in Sowetan yesterday, after her complaint about Nelson Mandela at Jabu Khanyile's funeral last week leaves much to be desired.
Apparently Chabaku complained that people from outside the country have easy access to Madiba, but locals find it difficult to meet him.
Like most South Africans, Khanyile had wanted to meet Madiba before he died, but his wish was not granted.
Though I understand that Madiba is old and needs to rest I find it unacceptable that Malala asks the question: "What makes Khanyile so special that Madiba must rush to his bedside simply because he wishes it?"
My question is: "What makes Morgan Freeman and a rapper like Jay-Z so special that Madiba had to meet them?"
Is it because they are from the US and have money, or what? I think Malala's mind is still colonised if he thinks that the greatest son of the soil, Khanyile, is not worthy to meet Madiba.
Khanyile has contributed a lot to the music industry in this country and he deserved to meet Madiba.
Like other local artists, he is more popular outside the country. This is sad indeed.
For the record, Khanyile remains the only artist in the world to have made Queen Elizabeth dance when he performed for her.
