Khanyile, music icon for all

In the past year our music industry has been hard hit by deaths, among them the passing of Lebo Mathosa and Jabu Khanyile, right. We will indeed miss and remember them.

In the past year our music industry has been hard hit by deaths, among them the passing of Lebo Mathosa and Jabu Khanyile, right. We will indeed miss and remember them.

Khanyile's music with Bayete and recently as a solo artist was true African music that resonated with our diverse cultures, traditions and religions.

He was actually an icon, a hero who, through his music, brought people of all colours together. It's unfortunate that he had to die so soon. We still expected a lot more from him. As music lovers, we will continue to enjoy his music and celebrate his life.

Khanyile contributed invaluably to the liberation of this country through his music. He advocated publicly for unity and togetherness and this became evident in his performances at concerts where you could see people of all colours joining and waving hands in the air as a way of appreciation and a token of love and tolerance for one another.

Rest in peace, Bra Jabu.
