Model C schools help the poor

Good model C schools are not a dividing factor in our society. They are a bridge.

Good model C schools are not a dividing factor in our society. They are a bridge.

Parents who are well off directly subsidise poorer families, to make an excellent education available to them. The government, teachers and parents from all walks of life work together in a partnership to create something none of us can achieve on our own. In the space provided by these schools, where democracy and excellence meet, leaders of the future are trained.

It is hard to understand why a union, as reported in Sowetan of November 16, would support an exemption scheme that could allow parents, who earn hundreds of thousands of rands, to refuse their responsibility for paying for their own children's education and subsidising the education of children from much poorer families.
