I am feeling very good about the future of this country.

I feel good because I know that there are men and women out there who are working day and night to ensure that the democracy we fought so hard for is preserved and continues to work.

First, I want to take my hat off to the Scorpions.

These fine men and women have come under fire from all quarters who claim they should be "integrated" into the South African Police Service.

They have been accused of being "Thabo Mbeki's private army" and labelled all sorts of other nasty names.

Well, they say actions speak louder than words.

When there is a job to be done, the Scorpions have done it - brilliantly.

The arrest last week of Glenn Agliotti for the alleged murder of businessman Brett Kebble is yet another fine feather in their cap.

Police bungled that investigation and their boss, Jackie Selebi, is as thick as thieves with the accused.

I do not believe Agliotti would have been arrested if the Scorpions had not handled the case secretly. To the Scorpions I say: keep on stinging!

My hat also goes off to the fine reporters of the Mail & Guardian newspaper.

For months they have been writing about Agliotti and his links to numerous crimes.

They have also followed the trail of the suspect's relationship with our head of police.

No one listened to them.

But now they have been vindicated. The arrest of Agliotti is as a result of their relentless and dedicated investigative journalism.

Mail & Guardian makes me proud to be a journalist.

So, dear readers, though the news might be depressing, there has been something to celebrate these past few days.
