Mamelodi Sundowns have dedicated Saturday's 3-1 victory over Black Leopards to one of their former greats, Samuel "Ewe" Kambule, who was buried earlier on the same day.
"It was a fitting farewell for Ewe, a man who contributed immensely to the success of the Sundowns brand," said general manager Walter Kutumela.
Kambule, a former Bafana Bafana player, who was also the first professional defender locally to win the Footballer of the Year award, died two weeks ago after a short illness.
Saturday's win over Leopards saw Downs becoming the first club to book a place in the lucrative Telkom Knockout Cup semifinal stage to be on course for the whopping R4,25million first prize.
"It is common knowledge that everything sponsored by Telkom in the PSL belongs to Sundowns. People are still to see the best of Sundowns this season," added Kutumela.
Gordon Igesund, Sundowns' coach, was equally delighted with the result.
On the other hand, Lidoda Duvha's coach Mlungisi "Professor" Ngubane was full of praise for his charges despite the defeat.
"As for some of the referees' decisions, they were appalling."
Leopards' officials and players were unhappy as they believed the match officials should have awarded them two penalties.
The scoreline might be a bit misleading because it was not smooth sailing for Sundowns, though David Thidiela's goal-shy side made them to sweat.
Leopards got the match to a flying start when Robert Ng'ambi easily beat goalie Brian Baloyi - playing his first official game this season - in the eighth minute.
Sundowns' ended Leopards' celebrations three minutes later when David Kannemeyer equalised. He was spotted by Josta Dladla, following a short corner by Godfrey Sapula.
The home side took the lead for the first time in the 44th minute when Surprise "Skopokopo" Moriri made it 2-1 with a fine header after Dladla's corner.
Lerato Chabangu grabbed the third in the 71st minute.
The match was stopped for 10 minutes in the first half by referee Daniel Bennet because of heavy rain
