Reigning Pick 'n Pay Marathon champion Albert Rapotle has joined an array of top runners who will take part in the 10km Alexandra road race on Sunday.

Also going to the area commonly known as tounship is Charles Tiyane, who finished second behind Rapotle in the marathon in February.

"Sunday's race affords the two runners the opportunity to settle the score," said Reuben Kgatle, Alexandra Athletics Club chairman.

"We are delighted that Alfred Pale, who has been doing extremely well in short distances, has also registered to run.

"We would like to thank all the top runners who are supporting us to ensure that the race becomes a roaring success.

"The presence of some of the big names in the country will also help us in our efforts to lure more people, especially the youth, into the sport."

The race will start at 8am at the Altrek sports grounds with more than 1000 people from around Gauteng expected to take part.

On the same day in Kagiso, the 10km Kagiso development road race will be run from the local mall at 8am. There will also be a 5km fun run.
