A series of fights led to the stabbing of two schoolboys by former Generations star and World of Winners' host Wright Ngubeni, 18, and co-accused - Xolile Lusapho and Andy Mabirrita - it was alleged yesterday.

Giving evidence in the Johannesburg magistrates' court, Ngubeni said the first incident took place at a nightclub in Rosebank known as Keyes.

"I was outside the club with my friends and Lebo, this guy I know, approached us and said he wanted to hang out with us and invited us to his place. We told him we couldn't go and he said to my friends, and I quote 'the only reason why Wright won't come with me is because of you extras'," said Ngubeni.

Ngubeni said Lebo was a real "nuisance" and a friend of his slapped him because of his comment.

The next incident happened at the Coca-Cola Dome during a concert by rapper JZ. Ngubeni said he ran into Lebo and S'busiso Khasu. Ngubeni said Lebo asked him where his friend was who had slapped him, meaning Lebo. When Ngubeni said he didn't know he was beaten.

"Lebo ran off to fetch another gang of boys. Shaun [Khasu] pulled me by my belt and started to beat me up. Lebo returned with a gang of about 20 and they began beating me with baseball bats," said Ngubeni.

He said he sustained back and head injuries, but was afraid to lay charges because he had heard they were a dangerous gang. The last incident took place at Capello Restaurant in Newtown, where Lusapho - Ngubeni's friend - said they had bumped into the two boys accompanied by a third. They agreed to speak to them "thinking that they wanted to apologise for what they did to Wright". Instead the meeting ended in a bloody fight "with chairs and bottles thrown around".

The bail hearing application by Ngubeni, Lusapho and Mabirrita will continue this morning.
