A cash boost will make taking care of children with physical and intellectual disabilities easier for some parents.
On October 23 South African Breweries gave R80000 to two branches of the Sunshine Centre in Soweto and Eldorado Park.
The centres in Johannesburg form part of four early intervention facilities that help pre-school children with physical disabilities and intellectual development delays.
The gift will fund skills training and the centres' baking project, which is run by the children's unemployed parents.
Sunshine's operation manager, Thando Ngxase, said this helped create jobs and dignity in the communities.
"When people are trained they are equipped for life. They will now be able to stand on their own," Ngxase said.
Mandu Nkomo, SAB's corporate affairs manager, said: "The rising unemployment rate not only hampers economic growth, but also creates widespread poverty.
"The women who will benefit from this donation will now be able to better care for their disabled children."
Sunshine runs stimulation programmes for the children and focuses on four areas of development, namely gross motor skills like walking, expressive and receptive language, activities of daily living such as eating, washing and getting dressed, and fine motor skills, which includes the use of the hands.
"Through these programmes children are better equipped to leave the centre and further their education," Ngxase said.
The centres' Strive Toward Achieving Results Together programmes teach families early intervention and how to care for children with disabilities.
