In a bid to help to raise funds for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag), local celebrities will participate in the Festival of Christmas Trees tonight at Sandton City's upper fountain court.

The 12 celebrities - actors, television personalities and musicians - are expected to decorate a Christmas tree.

Celebrities such as Leanne Manas, Graeme Richards, Basetsana Khumalo, Chi Chi Letswalo, Michelle Garforth, Emmanual Castis, Lillian Dube, Rosie Motene, Love Jones, Paul Flynn, Zwai, Loyiso, Pinkie Bala, DJ Nicole Fox and Kerry McGregor will be there, showing off their skills.

This 7th Festival of Christmas Trees is also intended to help families prevent teen suicides.

It will run until December10.

Some of the exciting celebrity trees will be Michelle Garforth's Fluttering Butterflies, Rosie Motene's Diamonds are Forever, Lillian Dube will be Flying with Santa and Pinkie Bala will be Floating with the Fairies.

Zane Wilson, of Sadag, said: "The festive season is a very stressful period for pupils receiving their matric results. This is Sadag's busiest time of year and the festival raises funds to keep it running. About 9percent of all teen deaths are because of suicide and Sadag runs the only toll-free crisis line for such people in need."

The public is encouraged to bid via SMS to help Sadag trim its mystery trees.

Chi Chi Letswalo, who has been supporting the event for the past two years, said: "I am proud to be associated with Sadag and to know that teens, and others in need are not alone and there is help available from this caring organisation."
