SPEEDING TO JAIL: Five motorists spent last night in police custody after being caught doing more than 180kmh on the N1 freeway outside Johannesburg.
The motorists were arrested going in both directions south of the N12 turn-off to Potchefstroom. They will appear in court today.

BOY VIOLATED: A man allegedly sodomised a boy, 14, in a veld in Germiston, Johannesburg, on Saturday .
The boy was walking to his house in Lambton at about 6pm, a police statement said.
"A man came and walked next to him and struck up a conversation. The man suddenly grabbed the boy and forced him into an area of open veld. He sodomised him and stole his cellphone before fleeing," the police said. - Sapa
MINER SUICIDE: A mineworker committed suicide in Virginia yesterday by detonating an explosive charge he had tied to his body while lying on the lawn outside his house.
Police spokesman Sergeant Malebo Khosana said the man was identified only as a Mr Du Preez.
"He sent his son and daughter-in-law, who were residing with him, to the shops," Khosana said.
"After their departure he called his mother over the telephone to tell her that he was intending to commit suicide."
He then strapped an explosive to his body, lay on the grass and detonated it.

POOL DEATH: Johannesburg emergency services were yesterday trying to recover the body of a man who died inside the filter system of a municipal swimming pool in Newlands, Johannesburg.
Chief Superintendent Malcolm Midgley said the man had gone inside on Friday to paint the drum before it was refilled for use.
Midgley said he might have been overcome by the paint fumes.
He said emergency services were trying to cut the tank to get him out. - Sapa
