Off the roll, but not forgotten

Themba Molefe and Sowetan must be commended for last week's inside story on how cops make a mess of things.

Themba Molefe and Sowetan must be commended for last week's inside story on how cops make a mess of things.

The story covered a number of cases that were thrown out of court because of incomplete investigations, such as the Protea dry-cleaning triple murder and the brutal murder in Soweto of the Mbhele sisters. There might well be other examples that have never had media attention.

I feel for those families who have been failed by our criminal justice system. Their loved ones were brutally murdered and the least that they deserved was for justice to be served.

Those who commit horrendous crimes should rot in jail. This would help families to obtain some closure.

Both cases attracted media attention, but when they were struck off the roll we hardly ever read about them again.

My wish is for Sowetan to continue to write about these cases so that justice can be served. This would help families to move on with their lives.

We cannot continue to have cases thrown out of court because of the incompetence of our law enforcement agencies.

Government resources should be channelled to enable our law enforcement agencies to restore our faith in the criminal justice system. Justice delayed is justice denied.
